Intrinsic color diversity of nearby Type Ia supernovae

چکیده

Abstract It has been reported that the extinction law for Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) may be different from one in Milky Way, but intrinsic color of SNe and dust are observationally mixed. In this study, we examine photometric properties nearby universe (z ? 0.04) to investigate SN extinction. The Risetime of Nearby Type Ia Supernovae

We present calibrated photometric measurements of the earliest detections of nearby type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia). The set of ∼30 new, unfiltered CCD observations delineate the early rise behavior of SNe Ia > 18 to 10 days before maximum. Using simple empirical models, we demonstrate the strong correlation between the risetime (i.e., the time between explosion and maximum), the post-rise light-cu...

Spectral Diversity of Type Ia Supernovae

We use published spectroscopic and photometric data for 8 Type Ia supernovae to construct a dispersion spectrum for this class of object, showing their diversity over the wavelength range 3700 Å to 7100 Å. We find that the B and V bands are the spectral regions with the least dispersion, while the U band below 4100Å is more diverse. Some spectral features such as the Si line at 6150Å are also h...

The Rate of Type Ia Supernovae in Nearby Dwarf Galaxies

We used the Robotic Optical Transient Search Experiment (ROTSE-III) astrophysical transient survey to determine the rate of type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) in dwarf galaxies within a radius of 310 Mpc. The rate is inferred from the SNe Ia sample discovered by ROTSE-III and a Monte Carlo simulation that estimates the ROTSE-III SNe Ia detection efficiency. Assuming that the rate of SNe Ia is the same...

Can Λ be determined from nearby Type Ia Supernovae ?

Type Ia Supernovae (SNe Ia) are the best standard candles known today. At high redshift (z ∼ 1) SNe Ia are used to determine the Cosmological Constant Λ with great success. However the most serious concern is raised by the possible luminosity evolution of the SNe Ia explosion itself, i.e., that their intrinsic luminosity might vary with the look-back time. It is unknown to which extent high-red...

A study of the color diversity around maximum light in Type Ia supernovae

From a sample of 12 well-observed Type Ia supernovae, we find clear evidence of correlations between early phase (U − B), (V − R), and (V − I) colors and the velocity shifts of the [Fe II] λ7155 and [Ni II] λ7378 nebular lines measured from late-phase spectra. As these lines are thought to trace the ashes of the initial deflagration process, our findings provide additional support to the new pa...
